Winter Wine Weekend
Mornington Peninsula Vignerons welcome visitors to warm Cellar Doors each winter to taste new release wines, visit old favourites and to experience the seasonal offerings of the region.
There is more to pruning in June, although many vignerons relish the rejuvenation of the vine following the busy harvest season.
The majesty of the vineyards is perhaps no more apparent than when stripped bare. The Queens Birthday Weekend offers an opportunity to immerse yourself in wine wander with the winemakers, visit the vineyards and taste new vintages.
Three days of wine, food and song pinot noir, chardonnay, pinot gris, shiraz, and a range of other less well known wines for the region, are matched with fine Australian cuisine, pizzas, emu snags, cassalinga food, saucy mussels & regional fare, home made soup by the fire in a mud brick cellar and long Sunday lunches.
Whether at a vintage review, a wine and food matching program, blending your own sparkling dosage, or simply chatting with the maker, the wines of the region will be on show in grand style. The opening event is the Winter Wine Fest (Saturday 12 June, 11am 4pm, Red Hill Recreation Reserve, Arthurs Seat Road, Red Hill) an exhibition and tasting which traditionally marks the beginning of the annual extensive Winter Wine Weekend program.
Seminars on key varieties grown in the region and hosted by key winemakers include tutored tasting and discussion on Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Shiraz. Numbers are limited to 50 per session, and bookings will be taken on first come first served basis on the day.
