Jade Buddha For Universal Peace Tour- Perth Exhibition
The Jade Buddha for Universal Peace is the largest and most beautiful Buddha carved from gemstone quality jade. Including lotus and throne the Buddha is over 3.5 metres.
The Buddha has been carved from a rare boulder of translucent jade (“Polar Pride”) which was discovered in Canada in the year 2000. It was dubbed as “the find of the millennium”.
The Buddha is based on the famous Buddha at the Mahabodhi Stupa in Bodh Gaya, India. A photographic study was made of the Indian Buddha and this became the basis for the prototype which was designed by an Australian and a Thai sculptor. A team of around 30 Thai carvers and polishers worked on the Jade Buddha prior to its completion in December 2008.
The Jade Buddha started the tour in Vietnam where over four million people have seen the Buddha.
