Australian Surf Lifesaving Championships
The Aussies - as the Championships are affectionately known - are back in 2009 and will once again be held at Scarborough Beach from 17 to 22 March.
Along with competitors, around 500 officials and thousands of surf lifesaving enthusiasts are expected to flock to the 2009 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships, making the event the largest of its type in the world.
Aussies 2009 marks the climax of a busy season for surf lifesavers. Clubs and individuals pit themselves against the elements and their peers to prove they are the best rescue and resuscitation outfits, ironmen, swimmers, boat crews, march past teams, ski paddlers, board riders and runners.
As we saw during Aussies 2008, Scarborough is a very good surfing beach and provides challenging conditions for Australia's premier surf lifesavers.
