Clipper 09-10 Round The World Yacht Race

The City of Geraldton-Greenough will welcome the Clipper 09-10 crews as they sail into Geraldton for their Western Australian stopover. The 10-strong fleet of identical stripped down ocean racing yachts are expected to arrive mid-December for a three week visit over the Christmas period.

The biennial Clipper Race covers more than 35,000 miles of ocean, stopping at 14 ports over 10 months. Crew members represent all walks of life and 33 nationalities.

The race started on 13 September 2009 from The Humber on the east of the United Kingdom with the first leg to La Rochelle in France; then on to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The yachts then head east with stopovers in South Africa, Singapore, China, USA, Jamaica, Canada and Ireland, returning to the Humber on 17 July 2010.

Join the festivities and welcome crews and families in Geraldton before a grand send off on Sunday, 3 January 2010.
