Demographics

The population of Queensland at the last national Census was 3,655,139 people (1,807,730 males and 1,847,409 females) with an average age of 35. There were 112,772 people of Indigenous origin living in the region.

Birthplace
Of the population, 77% were Australian-born with the remaining residents hailing from the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Germany. English was the only language spoken at home by 88% of the population, with Chinese, Italian and German the next most common languages spoken.

IT
Of the population, 41% had recently used a personal computer at home with 14% under 20 years old, 17% between 20 and 44 and 10% aged 44 and over. The total number of people who had recently used the Internet was 1,280,831.

Labour force
During the week prior to Census 1,568,864 people in Queensland (857,914 males and 710,950 females) were employed, representing 91% of the labour force. Of these 64% were working full-time. Within the total workforce 9% were employed as Managers and Administrators and 16% as Professionals.
