Galong

Rural

Galong is at the centre of an historical area, which today is a major grain producer near Harden. The town is well known for its cemetery, which has among other monuments, some angels carved by Frank Rusconi, the monumental mason from Gundagai. You can also visit the grounds of the Saint Clements monastery which has a fascinating history.

Ned Ryan settled at Galong in 1830 and established a large sheep run; the 1850 former homestead is now part of St Clement’s, built circa 1918. The new museum in the old homestead and the walled cemetery nearby are worth a visit.
