Coniston and Mount Saint Thomas are residential suburbs of Wollongong city. Mount Saint Thomas is thought to be after the maiden name of the wife of Captain Charles Waldron. Significant development occurred during the post-war years, aided by immigration. The population has been relatively stable since the early 1990s, a result of some new dwellings being added, and a decline in the average number of persons living in each. Major features of the area include the WIN Television Station and Radio Station i98FM, Coniston Community Centre and a school.
