Jindabyne

Urban

Jindabyne is located closest to the Snowy Mountains ski resorts and is one of the State’s best trout fishing locations. The original town of Jindabyne lies at the bottom of Lake Jindabyne. The lake was created when the valley was flooded and dammed as part of the Snowy Mountains Scheme in the 1960s.

Jindabyne offers many outdoor and adventure activities. Go fishing, skiing, white-water rafting, mountain biking, camping, horse riding, sailing, windsurfing or canoeing. Picnic by the scenic lake or drive to one of the many lookouts along the Alpine Way. Visit the Gaden Trout Hatchery on the banks of the Thredbo River.

The Snowy River shire around Jindabyne inspired the legendary poems and stories of the mountain horsemen famously immortalised in Banjo Paterson’s “The Man from Snowy River”. There are many accommodation options including hotels, apartments, holiday homes and lodges.
