Located in Hunter River Country, Duckenfield is a tiny village surrounded by rich pasture and farmlands, six kilometres from the historic river port of Morpeth. It affords excellent views across the plains to the Hunter River. Duckenfield and neighbouring Berry Park offer a juxtaposition of Georgian architecture and modern housing. It is an area that has bred fine racehorses and is a horse breeding region today.
Duckenfield was part of the original estate of wealthy landowner and businessman John Eales (1799-1871). A drive along Duckenfield Road passes two homes built by Eales, Berry Park House and Berry House.
