Chatsworth Island, New South Wales

The village of Chatsworth Island lies on the bank of the north Arm of the Clarence River just south of the Mororo Bridges. Last century the village was a flourishing commercial centre boasting 5 hotels, 3 stores, 3 churches, 2 butcher shops, post office, school, refreshment rooms and fruit store, boarding house, blacksmith, community hall, creamery and the C.S.R Sugar Mill (the forerunner of the existing mill at Harwood). The place was a busy cargo and passenger centre becoming the halfway house between Grafton and the Richmond River. Some of the original buildings and homes of that period still remain. A detour via the village provides a short scenic and peaceful drive.
