The Channon, New South Wales

The ChannonThe Channon is a pretty village located 20 kilometres from Lismore set among hills draped in tranquil subtropical rainforests. On the second Sunday of each month, The Channon comes to life for its big, bold and funky craft market. Up to 10,000 people pour into the village to enjoy wonderful home-made cuisine and hand crafted goods, be entertained by buskers and to soak up the colour and energy. With up to 250 stalls, the markets are one of the biggest and most popular in regional NSW.

The heritage listed Channon Tavern offers a traditional counter lunch, a refreshing drink or hearty dinner. Once a butter factory, the Tavern has been transformed into a funky pub where locals and visitors mix.

The Channon is at the doorstep of the World Heritage listed Nightcap National Park and the spectacular Protesters Falls. Travel 15 kilometres along Terania Creek Road to Nightcap National Park, and walk the gorgeous rainforest trail to Protestors Falls. Set amidst beautiful rainforest, the falls were named after the protesters who anti-logging campaign in the late 1970s and early 1980s led to the declaration of the National Park in 1983.

Now a yearly tradition, Opera at The Channon is a black tie event attracting visitors from all over the country. Guests enjoy fine food and wine in the picturesque country setting then relax for an afternoon with some of Australia's finest operatic talent in the natural amphitheatre of Coronation Park.
