Ancient rock paintings
Mootwingee National Park, 130 kilometres from Broken Hill, was once one of the most important Aboriginal meeting places in Australia. Hundreds of ochre outlines of hands are stencilled on rock, and engravings and ancient fireplace remains are common.
Broken Hill gives true meaning to the expression Living Outback. Among the rugged beauty and dusty landscape of the region, the city is a soothing green oasis in the harsh desert, with lush green parks and gardens.
