St Helens and the North East

Region

St Helens is a picturesque fishing port on the shores of Georges Bay and is the largest town on Tasmania’s North East Coast. There’s good sea and river fishing, not to mention the best game fishing in Tasmania. Charters are available.
Just north of St Helens is the pristine coast and beautiful beaches of the Bay of Fires, one of Lonely Planet’s top 10 regions in the world.
Other towns in the region include Bridport with Australia’s number one public golf course Barnbougle Dunes, Scottsdale with its rich agricultural land, Derby with its early history of tin mining and some of the best mountain bike trails in the world and Legerwood with its intricate tree sculptures. There’s also Pyengana, a cheese lovers haven.
To the north is Mt William National Park – a great place to see large Forester kangaroos while inland are the mountainous summits of Ben Lomond and Mt Barrow.
