East Coast, Tasmania
This region is a hedonist’s delight, with coastal freedom, great local wine and gourmet treats ranging from oysters to olives and succulent berry fruits. It has superb beaches for swimming, surfing and adventuring; and boutique wineries that, among a range of varieties, produce some of the richest pinot noirs in the world. Nature’s bounty includes three National Parks - Douglas-Apsley, with its quiet rivers and gorge; Freycinet, with Wineglass Bay and the red granite of The Hazards Range; and Maria Island, a wildlife refuge and historic gem. Dolphins and migrating whales are regular visitors along the coast. Fishing fleets in villages like St Helens, Bicheno and Triabunna bring in fresh seafood and fish daily. |
