Big Bend By Night offers visitors the chance to see large numbers of kangaroos and wombats in the wild on unique spotlighting tours at Big Bend on the banks of the Murray River.

You can enjoy a bush tucker breakfast, or a Dark Sky Nocturnal tour and, if travelling as a group participate in the Sunnydale Shearing Show.

There is no walking involved in the nocturnal tours just soft, comfortable padded seats in an open sided cart that is a fun experience on its own, especially on a clear starry night.

Big Bend By Night also have a Mercedes Benz Sprinter and a Toyota Commuter available to take you on a wine tasting adventure to the Barossa Valley or Langhorne Creek wine region, an Outback Pub tour which includes lots of bush tracks and wildlife, or an Adelaide Hills Safari that includes a visit to Monarto Zoo and historic Hahndorf.

All of these tours, with commentary and stories provided by the drivers are available within two hours of Adelaide.

Big Bend By Night Bush Tucker Food Breakfast

This tour is available to houseboat hirers located at the Big Bend River Murray 229 kilometre marker (Swan Reach/Nildottie). You will be offered a glass of Jacobs Creek Chardonnay Pinot Noir or orange juice from the back of our Austin A40 and from there you will enjoy a breakfast of kangaroo sausage, double smoked bacon, scrambled egg with bush tomato seasoning and ground saltbush, tomato with ground black mountain pepper and samphire bush, mushroom with desert flakes, kutjera relish, wattle seed toast with lemon myrtle butter, quandong jam and wild lime marmalade, and wattleseed pancakes with desert passion syrup finished off with a steaming cup of Billy tea.

Operates: Daily from houseboat located at Big Bend River Murray 229 kilometre marker (Swan Reach/Nildottie) by arrangement, 8am to 9am.

Big Bend By Night Nocturnal Tour

Self drive to property or you can be collected from your houseboat mooring at 229 marker and board a comfortable covered wagon towed behind a four wheel motorbike (quad bike) that takes you into the bush to view, up close, the wombats, kangaroos and spiders as they come out to feed at night.

Operates: Daily (except Wednesday), 7.30pm to 8.30pm approximately.

Barossa Valley Winery Day Tour

From $180 to $250

Your day begins with pickup from the Murraylands region – Mannum/Bow Hill, Walker Flat/Swan Reach area, houseboat mooring or location on the River Murray by arrangement. Enjoy an informative commentary during your journey to the picturesque Barossa Valley. Your tour will cater for all tastes be it wine or beer and includes lunch at a selected winery.

Additional cost: Tour can include a 10 minute helicopter flight from Barossa Helicopters.

Operates: Daily, 9am to 5pm.

Adelaide Hills Safari

$180

The tour starts with collection from your houseboat mooring between Mannum and Swan Reach. You will then experience a tour though Monarto Zoo where you will see many African animals in their open range habitat. We then travel through the Adelaide Hills to Hahndorf where you will enjoy lunch at a traditional German hotel. While in Hahndorf you will have the opportunity to wander the main street and enjoy wine and cheese tasting at one of the boutique outlets.
Last stop for the day will be a chocolate factory before we follow the scenic route back to your houseboat.

Langhorne Creek Tour

$180

You will be collected from your houseboat mooring between Mannum and Swan Reach and travel through Murray Bridge to Langhorne Creek.
You will call in at The Wine House tasting room where you can taste a variety of award winning Langhorne Creek wines. Next stop is Bleasdale Winery for tastings of a wide range of their signature wines and a tour of the historic winery.

Your next winery is Bremerton Lodge for more tasting and lunch.
To complete your visit to Langhorne Creek we will go to Rusticana Wines where you will also be able to taste Newmans Horseradish products.
On the journey home we will pass through Wellington where one of the oldest working hotels in South Australia is located directly on the banks of the River Murray.

Outback Pub Crawl

You will be collected from your houseboat mooring between Mannum and Swan Reach and will travel to Sedan for your first experience of a typical outback pub.
You will then travel on an outback track through saltbush country, where you are likely to see some native wildlife, to Sutherlands Hotel and then onto Mt Mary Hotel for lunch .
The return journey home will take you through Blanchetown where you will get to view Lock 1.
First drink at Sedan and lunch are included in the price.

Their Nocturnal Dark Sky Night Tour is the perfect way to experience one of the world’s most pristine areas of night sky, with uninterrupted views to the Milky Way and complete clarity above the Murray River and famous Big Bend Cliffs.

Whether you’re an outdoors enthusiast, night photographer, stargazer, astronomer or simply someone looking for a unique experience in the untouched Australian environment, they know you’ll be telling your friends about your tour under the Mid Murray stars for years.

The minimum levels of light pollution in this area are ideal for an exceptional viewing experience.

After sunset, jump on board the comfortable, bush themed, open top carts and they’ll take you to a countryside ample with space – located 12 kilometres from the Swan Reach Conservation Park, the centre of the Mid Murray Dark sky viewing area.
