National Portrait Gallery

An extensive collection of Australian portraits that reflect the history, diversity and culture of Australia are held at the National Portrait Gallery.

The Gallery displays portraits from around the world and is a centre for learning about portraiture and history. The Gallery's extensive permanent collection of portraits features the people who have shaped the nation, those who have made history and those who are making history. Favourites include Ned Kelly’s death mask and Howard Arkley’s portrait of Nick Cave. The National Portrait Gallery has two exhibition spaces at Old Parliament House (permanent collection) and at Commonwealth Place.
