The Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area was inscribed on the World Heritage List in the year 2000. The area consists of 1.03 million hectares of
mostly forested landscape on a sandstone plateau, about two hours from Sydney. The Greater Blue Mountains is an area of breathtaking views, rugged
tablelands, sheer cliffs, valleys, swamps teeming with life.

The unique plants and animals that live in this outstanding natural place relate to Australia's antiquity, its diversity of life and beauty. It is home to one of
the most famous recently discovered species, the Wollemi Pine and has 91 eucalypt species and 400 animal species throughout.

The area encompasses eight conservation reserves and is spread over 14 local government areas.
