The Wines
McVitty Grove has been established as a specialist Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris producer. These varieties thrive in the estate's high altitude and cool climate.
Pinot Noir is regarded as the most seductive of all red grape varieties whilst Pinot Gris has been considered the easiest white wine to drink with food. Vineyard management and fruit development are critical to the production of outstanding wine. At McVitty Grove, the vineyard is nurtured by viticulturalist Andrew Stewart. Yields are kept low and the vines are managed with minimal interference to ensure the grapes develop natural flavours and characters.
The Story
Mark and Jane Phillips imagined raising their four children in the Southern Highlands. In 1998 they purchased picturesque farm land along the Wombeyan Caves Road.
After much research, grape vines and olive trees were planted in the property's fertile soils. The flourishing olive grove now provides the backdrop for the farm's cellar door and visitors' centre.
The land on which the farm sits was first settled in 1822 by a young Scotsman named Thomas McVitty. Like Mark and Jane, Thomas was a banker, being instrumental in the founding of Australia’s first two banks. Thomas also had four children and, in coming to Australia, was embarking on a similar adventure to Mark and Jane.
"McVitty Grove" reflects the farm's history and promises a continuation of its journey.
