Magellan Observatory

Celebrate the International Year of Astronomy at Magellan Observatory.

3 Hours from Sydney and 100 light years from care.

Located in the rolling hills of the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales in Australia, on 120 acres of beautiful countryside. At an elevation of 780 metres and well away from city lights (200 kilometres from Sydney and 70 kilometres from Canberra) the views of the night sky even with the naked eye are spectacular, and through our 46cm diameter telescope.

Daytime attractions are the wide variety of bird and animal life (kangaroos, wombats echidnas). There are also often daytime observations of some planets and the sun.

For something different there are 'Sky Tours' conducted with strictly limited numbers of guests (10 or less) to allow longer views and a larger number of objects to be seen. View the universe through one of the largest telescopes open to the public. There is also site accommodation, set on 120 acres in the Southern Highlands.
