4WD Trips - Braidwood and Beyond

4WD Trips offers a range of short duration 4WD tours or 4WD tagalong trips for passengers or tag along vehicles. Ranging from half day easy (soft roader) drives along well maintained forest roads to half/full day harder trips. Multi-day camping or accommodated trips of all standards can be arranged to suit your specific needs.

Favourite tours enable you to experience the wilderness, walk in rain forests and drive rugged mountain ridges. Alternatively you may choose to be the passenger and be driven to these places by their experienced guides.

They operate from Braidwood, a heritage town mid way between Canberra and Batemans Bay on the NSW South Coast. National Parks include Monga, Deua, Tallaganda, Gourrock as well as State Forests in the region.

Special tours can be tailored to suit a group of passengers / tagalongs such as photography, painting groups and those interested in the heritage of the region.

"Bendethera Sortie" Full day 4WD Tour

Bendethera is perhaps the pick of all 4WD camping destinations in south east NSW. It is a pretty cleared valley in the heart of the Deua National Park with the crystal clear waters of the Deua River offering an ideal camping ground. The valley was settled in the 1860s and remains of the historic homestead site are well sign posted. Their route to Bendethera is from the Braidwood - Cooma road and takes in the Dampier Fire Trail and Trig station. The steep descent is best suited to proper 4WD (low range needed for engine braking). A range of wildlife including kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, lizards and lyre birds are usually seen (and heard). Their "Bendethera Sortie" tour is a day trip in and out of Bendethera, not recommended for novice 4WD drivers. Passengers welcome.

"High Road South" Full day 4WD Tour

The "High Road South" 4WD is a day tour from Braidwood which travels along the ridges forming part of the Great Dividing Range to the south west of Braidwood. The tour is ideal for drivers who are still gaining experience with off-road driving as the trail conditions can be handled by AWD (Soft-roaders) with good clearance and tyres with good tread. The track traverses the ridges at reasonably high altitudes (up to 1200 metres) with sections passing through snow gums and lower sections are through taller, straighter species of eucalyptus. You will see sections of working forests (logging and plantations) as well as pristine areas of bush. Sometimes lyre birds can be spotted along with wallabies. In the winter months, snow is often present along this route.

Mongo National Park "Wild Places" Day Trip

A day 4WD tour to the Mongo National Park to the east of Braidwood covers areas of old growth rain forest, tree ferns and mountain streams. They also transverse steep fire trails on the edge of declared wilderness. Passengers (maximum four) and Tagalong vehicles (maximum six). The steep fire trails will require low range and good clearance and tyres. Some previous 4WD required.
