Lawson Park
Named after Lt. William Lawson. The stone fence was erected during the depression of the 1930's. Here in this beautiful riverside park there are two interesting historic monuments - both re-erected after removal from their original sites. On entering the park walk along the park roadway, and before reaching the swimming pool you will see on your right, about half-way across to Short Street, a sandstone monument. This was erected at the intersection of church and market (where clock and tower now stand) in 1910 to commemorate 50 years of local government. Note watering facilities for man's two best friends -his horse and dog further on, and situated in the centre of the roadway just before the swimming pool stands the obelisk which was unveiled during the Centenary celebrations in 1921. It was first erected at the intersection of market and Perry Streets.
