Golden Memories Museum

Golden Memories Museum where heritage comes alive!

Historic buildings, fascinating history with memories of pioneering days, gold discovery and mining displays, and a huge collection of farm machinery - much of it working.

Plus a 1911 Clayton & Shuttleworth Traction Engine that worked in the area crushing gold ore at Trunkey Creek.

The Pioneers gallery, originally St Joseph's Convent School has a fine gallery of pioneer portraits an interactive schoolroom and objects from old Millthorpe including the Post Office switchboard.

The Good Templars Hall built in 1881houses many treasures - Victorian and Edwardian pieces as well as a pistol and fossicking pick which belonged to John Lister, co-discoverer of gold at Ophir.

There's also a rich source of data for researchers with local cemetery records and a collection of over 700 local photos from which you can order copies.

The Museum of Rural Technology on our site has an amazing collection of mining and orchard machinery, hay and chaff cutting gear, potato and pea harvesting machinery as well as shearing gear and a vast array of tools. And there's a treasure trove of tractors and stationary engines to admire.

On special days this machinery is demonstrated to visitors and the blacksmith's shop can also be seen in action.

All this in a village which is a unique blend of history and shopping temptation with all you need to enjoy a relaxed afternoon or a lazy weekend.

Tour buses and coaches are welcome by appointment.
