Pilliga Forest

In the Pilliga State Forest all bird routes, bird watching and forest drives are signposted and cater for visitors based at both Narrabri and Coonabarabran. The Forest Tourist Drives are not recommended after heavy rain. Please pick up the Pilliga State Forest Map or the 'Bird Routes of Baradine and the Pilliga' brochure from the Visitor Centre.

'The Pilliga' is a vast, unusual forest; it is managed for timber production, conservation and recreation. Points of interest include the Baradine District
Forestry Office; this building is made of timber from the Pilliga Forest, and the Pilliga District Forest Way. Picnic areas in the forest include 'The Aloes' which
is famous for its koala colony and 'The Salt Caves' - directions from the Coonabarabran Visitor Centre. Here you will see cypress pine forests, ironbarks
and other eucalypts, national regeneration of the cypress pine, timber stand improvement, flora and fauna and honey production. There are a number of
picnic and camping sites throughout the forest.
