Blakefield Fish Farm Denman
Blakefield Fish Farm was established in 1986 to complement the Beef Cattle production on the Blakefield property, which has been in the Blake Family for 98 years. The Blake Family commenced selling fish in 1990, making use of the water stored in 21 ponds on Blakefield. They have concentrated on raising Silver Perc (Bidyanus Bidyanus), a freshwater species from the Murray/Darling. The Silver Perch have a sweet white flesh and is an excellent source of Omega 3 acids. The Blake Family; sells to the Asian market and supplies fresh fish to restaurants, as well as breeding fingerlings for farm and state dams.
Visitors are welcome 7 days a week, and are able to select their own live fish at $10 a kilo, which can be cleaned, filleted and scaled to customer's orders.
Silver perch are delicious steamed or baked with ginger, garlic and shallots.
