Catherine Hill Bay

Located just 90 minutes north of Sydney, Catherine Hill Bay was originally a historic coal mining town. A sleepy community nestled in between two National Park areas, the town is now a popular destination for surfers and swimmers alike, who enjoy its secluded location and its untouched feel. The beach is also home to a coal loading dock, giving it's southern end a unique working history. Up until recently, coal ships docked at the beaches extended jetty to load up from the nearby colliery.

• Generally offers safe conditions for both swimmers and surfers
• Unspoilt surroundings, in a natural bushland setting
• Unique outlook
• Historic graveyard at the northern end of Catherine Hill Bay beach
• A 5 minute drive to Lake Macquarie, which is over four times the size of Sydney Harbour
