Wollongong Botanic Gardens
The Wollongong Botanic Gardens cover an area of 27.41 hectares including Gleniffer Brae Manor House which is now a reception centre and home of the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music. The Botanic Gardens is a popular place for marriage ceremonies and wedding photos.
The Sir Joseph Banks Plant House features plants from the wet tropics, deserts and temperate regions. Surrounding gardens include plants from temperate and subtropical regions.
The Rose Garden boasts over 100 rose varieties and an equatorial sundial. The Woodland Garden features a range of cool climate plants from around the world. The Azalea Bank shows a collection of azalea hybrids making a colourful display in spring. There are a variety of displays of flowering trees and shrubs of interest throughout the year.
The Succulent Plants region of the Gardens features plants from Africa and America. Dryland plants from arid and semi arid areas of Australia are on display, as well as both dry sclerophyll and wet sclerophyll forests from Australian open forests and grassland regions.
A variety of rainforest regions are featured including the varied rainforest communities of the Illawarra Rainforest; subtropical rainforest areas of New South Wales and Queensland; dry rainforest communities that have adapted to dry conditions; and an array of plants from exotic rainforest communities around the world.
Wollongong Botanic Garden Tours run on weekdays from 8.00 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. Tours are booked per hour.
