Gilgai Estate Winery
Vineyards have been grown in the inverell district since the 1850'S. Charles Wyndham, from one of the best known wine making families in Australia, planted vines at bukkulla in 1849. Over the next 90 years bukkulla wines became well known and won prizes at home and abroad.
In 1969 the industry was revived. Gilgai Red Vineyards were established by Keith Whish, whose aim was to produce a good dry red, and a number of different varieties were planted. These also included white varieties for the production of white table wines.
What began as a hobby has grown into a small and interesting business which was sold to Alan Turvey in 2005. It is one of the highest wineries in Australia.
Tasting and purchases available, groups and coaches catered for.
