Booloominbah
Booloominbah is a late Victorian (1888) mansion and has National Trust
classification.
The house was used for living, eating, teaching and administration by the
staff and students. Alterations were made to the western end of the house
with the demolition of the main chimney and adaptation of the former
kitchen and service area. Further alterations have been made from time to
time as the university's needs have grown and changed. It now houses the
Principal administration offices and meeting rooms.
A must see is the stained glass window, the Gordon Window, installed about
1901, commemorates the life of General Gordon who was killed in 1885.
This window was made in London, but the other stained glass was made in
Sydney by the firm of Lyon, Cottier. The nursery is made of twenty small
panels, each a copy of an illustration in a children's book published between
1870 and 1882. The artists represented are Kate Greenaway, Randolph Caldecott
and Stacy Marks.
