Stannum House
A magnificent Victorian 3 storey mansion built in 1888 by mining millionaire John Holmes Reid and later used as the 77th Australian Camp Military Hospital 1942-1944.
The three story brick and stucco building with front bay windows has a cast iron verandah and balcony decoration. The four panel front door has side and fan lights and the splendid vestibule has an archway supported by Corinthian pillars. Upstairs are exquisite hand engraved and patterned glass windows with a Juliet balcony leading off the main bedroom. The heavy cedar doors have crystal door knobs and fire places are Italian marble. Local stonemasons cut the granite steps.
In the garden at the front are two Atlantic cedars and the bunya pine at the back is believed the tallest tree in Tenterfield.
This magnificent Italianate Villa has now been restored to its former glory and is only awaiting your appreciative custom.
