Thunderbolts Grave

The colourful bushranger, Captain Thunderbolt (born Fred Ward) is buried in the old pioneer cemetery in John Street Uralla. He was buried in May 1870. The legend of Thunderbolt lives on in the Uralla and New England area. Whilst he was hunted by police for some six and a half years before being shot and killed, the people of the area regarded him as a hero.

A bronze statue of thunderbolt on his horse has been erected in Uralla's main street.
