Centenary Museum And Cottage

The Centenary Cottage Museum complex consists of a collection from a bygone era circa 1871, from pioneering families to early history of the district and town. The museum features the General Sir Harry Chauvel Gallery which contains a display of war memorabilia, and the Workman’s Cottage 'Petrie Cottage' with contents of early pioneering ways.

Holding the largest collection of historical material relating to Tenterfield, the Centenary Cottage is a fine example of colonial architecture. The house was built by Thomas McGauran in 1871 for Michael Egan, a blacksmith. The walls are 12 inches thick. The land was bought at the first land sales for the town held on 9 March 1854.

The Cottage and Museum feature a fine collection of nineteenth century Tenterfield memorabilia. It is within easy walking distance of the main street. Groups are welcome.
