Tenterfield School Of Arts
The small museum in the building contains many interesting relics associated with Sir Henry Parkes as well as a library catering for the whole district. The building is classified by the National Trust and the local management
committee was the first independent one formed outside Sydney in NSW.
Sir Henry journeyed to Queensland to consult with political leaders and returned to Sydney via Tenterfield, which some years previously had kindly provided him with a seat in parliament. He was determined to stay and make a declaration of a policy for a united Australia and did on 24th October 1889 which stirred the colonies onto Federation.
A tablet commemorating this event is fixed to the porch in Rouse Street, and leads into the hall where Sir Henry spoke. The library contains various Parkes and Federation relics. The plaque was unveiled by the Governor General HRH Duke of Gloucester on 17th October 1946.
