Mehi Murri Tour of Moree

Mehi Murri was formed by a group of Aboriginal (Murri) students from the Moree TAFE Campus in the North West NSW town of Moree in Gamilaraay (also known as Kamilaroi and Gamilaroi) country.

The Mehi Murri Tour of Moree takes you to various significant landmarks around the Moree township. Providing commentary, the tour presents an Aboriginal historical perspective of life growing up in Moree. Including the Missions, Piusx Aboriginal Medical Centre, Moree Plains Art Galley (Aboriginal Artifacts),The Mehi River and the Mehi Murri Art Studio.

The tour is around 1&1/2 hours in duration, and finishes at the Mehi Murri Art Studio* to give you an opportunity to meet with, interact, and hear the Murri's share their stories of their life growing up in Moree. You will also be able to watch and ask questions, as the Murri artists create their artworks, including paintings, scultptures, carving, jewellery and screen prints. (*Monday to Thursday, 9am – 3pm).

Optional extra: "Curry with a Murri".
Pronounced Murray, "Curry with a Murri" is a social casual way to enjoy a meal in the company of the artists. The artists cook up a big pot of curry (chicken, vegies,and a few secret ingredients), Johnny cakes (small dampers cooked over ashes) and deep fried scones. Everyone sits around the table (all the artists and visitors, eat and just have a casual yarn in a relaxed atmosphere in the Gallery/Studio gardens giving you an opportunity to better know the artists.

The curry is cooked before you arrive, but visitors will have the opportunity to cook their own Johnny cakes.The cooking is all done on the grassed area of the studio grounds. Advance booking is essential. Cost is $6.00 per person in additional to tour cost.
