Sugarloaf Point Lighthouse
The lighthouse is significant because it is the first major lighthouse by James Barnet. It is also significant, as it is only one of two towers in Australia with an external stairway.
There is an old saying amongst sailors to the effect that more wrecks occur near lighthouses than on unlit parts of the coast, some 20 wrecks occurred in this area since the lighthouse was established in 1875. The loss of the "Catterthun" was one of Australia's most tragic shipping disasters, when in 1879, 55 lives were lost.
The Sugarloaf Point Lighthouse is built on the point of land known as Sugarloaf Point. In later years however, it has become known as Seal Rocks Lighthouse. Enjoy the great coastal views, beaches and lighthouse grounds.
There are no tours, though reserve is open to public. There is a lookout at the tower with a very scenic outlook.
