Wallingat Forest Drive

The wallingat state forest covers an area of 6515 hectares, much of this high site quality, producing fine stands of blackbutt, flooded gum, tallowwood, sydney blue gum, brush box and turpentine. Other, lower quality areas support stands of spotted gum, grey gum, ironbark, mahogany and stringybark. Logs from
this forest and others in the district have supported sawmills at neranie, bungwahl and tuncurry since the late nineteenth century.

Besides being a valuable timber producer, wallingat state forest has much to offer the visitor. The forest drive marked on the map is a suggested route to enable visitors to obtain maximum recreational and educational benefit from the trip. Inside the forest itself, the drive route is marked by blue arrows
(containing a white leaf inset) on a white circular disc.

Forest roads are often narrow and winding and carry two-way traffic, so please drive carefully and be alert to the possibility of oncoming cars or trucks.
