Avoca-on-Darling Hospitality

Avoca Homestead is a landmark in the area, having "lived" in three centuries. Built in the 1800's it moved through the 1900's and is now opening its doors to the 21st century. It was built in 1871 of wood and pine log construction. A stone extension was added in 1878.

Your hosts Ian and Barbara Law welcome you to historic Avoca Homestead, its four levels of accommodation, beautiful gardens and historic outbuildings, as seen on the 'GETAWAY' television program.

Large rooms and high ceilings are characteristic of the period and wood fires burn brightly during winter. The wide verandahs provide a view across lawns sloping down to the river and its magnificent river red gums.

Extensive rose gardens, eucalypts, jacaranda and peppercorn trees surround the homestead, beyond which stand the original cook's cottage, kitchen, jackeroos' quarters, laundry, meat house, out-buildings, and a gardener's cottage with an adjoining fruit and vegetable garden.

A mod-grass tennis court lies between a long hedge of large old oleander trees and a citrus grove.

Animals include dogs, cats, chooks, geese, a couple of thoroughbred horses and an old Shetland pony named 'Opal'. If you would like to bring your pet dog, or horse to ride, we are pet friendly.

The skies here are generally clear and a telescope is now available for evening viewing.

Avoca Homestead is the ideal place to get away from the "rat race" and "recharge the batteries".

Day tours are welcome by appointment. Morning or afternoon tea is available. Spend some time enjoying the gardens and absorbing some Outback History while it lasts!
