Royal Flying Doctor Service
The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (RFDS) (New South Wales Section) is located at the Broken Hill Airport, where visitors can see its operations first hand. The Royal Flying Doctor Service is the world's first, largest and most comprehensive aero-medical organisation which provides an extensive
healthcare service for people who live, work and travel throughout the vast Australian outback.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service is for everyone, people living in the bush, tourists and people visiting the outback who unfortunately have an accident or
become ill. Today The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia covers over 80 per cent of Australia. The service treats around 160,000 people each year,
with 17,000 emergency evacuations. From 16 bases The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia now provides emergency services, routine clinics, radio
and telephone consultations, the outback's pharmacy (medical chests) and aerial transfers. There is no patient in Australia the Flying Doctor cannot reach
within two hours.
Tour includes: a video, which shows you an overall view of operations, walk through The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia headquarters to the
Mezzanine floor and into the hanger to see the aircraft and see the radio room handling calls to and from remote towns and stations.
