City Sights And Heritage TourThis tour covers 50 kilometres of this unique city. Your tour guide will tell you of the impact the enormous wealth of the 'Silver City' had on the development of this great country. This city was founded from the discovery of the richest ore body in the Southern Hemisphere. A highlight is a visit to the Line of Lode Miner's Memorial. This magnificent attraction is located at the highest point of the Line of Lode, overlooking the city. Hear of the origins of BHP and their eventual departure from the Silver City. See the vast differences between the early miners' cottages and the modern homes of today. Your tour takes in wonderful heritage buildings, churches and hotels. Take note of the green parklands and the magnificent fully grassed Broken Hill Golf Course, something that was just a dream to the early pioneers in this semi-arid climate. Outback Adventure (ex Sydney)Day 1 Thursday - Arrive in Broken Hill on the Indian Pacific. You will be met by your Host from Silver City Tours and escorted to your accommodation. Today, you head to Australia's oldest commercial opal fields. See Australia's first solar power station. You'll visit underground dwellings and opal showrooms and have a chance to purchase opals direct from the source. Day 4 Sunday - Silverton Ghost Town and Sunset Sculptures Symposium. This morning, you visit Australia's liveliest ghost town and the setting for many movies. See craft centres, galleries and museums and the historic Silverton Hotel. In the afternoon, you will visit the Sculpture Symposium at sunset. Day 5 Monday - Wetlands Cruise, Menindee and Kinchega National Park. Enjoy a leisurely tour around the Menindee Lakes scheme. Travel from Menindee onwards to Kinchega National Park. Relax on a cruise through the wetlands aboard the “River Lady”. It will enlighten you on the discovery of Silverton in the early 1880's, until the-then population of approximately 3000 people put all their belongings in their wheelbarrows and moved to the ‘Broken Hill', to seek their fortunes mining for silver, lead and zinc. A visit to the one-time miner Pro Hart's Gallery is a must when visiting Broken Hill. Another artist who is growing in stature is Peter Anderson, known locally as “Ando”. This ex-mining engineer never does things by half. This is evident by his work, the 'Big Picture', the world's largest acrylic painting on canvas (100 m x 12 m). It is housed in the Silver City Mint and Art Centre, alongside an abundance of silver jewellery that is for sale. Silverton Ghost TownSituated approximately 28 kilometres from Broken Hill, Silverton, Umberumberka Reservoir and the Mundi Mundi Plains have many natural and historical features that are best described to you at the point of contact by your experienced guide.
