Mudbrick cottages with cathedral ceilingsThe cottages are snug because they were built along passive solar principles. Most of the windows face north to let in the winter sun and there are wide eaves to block out the summer sun. Mudbricks give them a high thermal mass to store heat and smooth out the day-night temperature variation. Timber venetian blinds are also used to control heat loss and gain. The large posts and beams are made from termite-resistant native cypress and the ceiling from plantation pine. The views are rural and very, very relaxing. | |
