Fernbrook Garden and Botanical Art Gallery
Fernbrook Garden is known as one of Australia's most beautiful woodland gardens and is situated near the top of Bellbird Hill at Kurrajong Heights. Visitors enjoy a gentle stroll through winding pathways, which lead amongst very old and gracious Turpentine, Lilli-Pilli and Sassafras Trees. These are under planted with a careful mix of plants, chosen for their texture and colour. The garden had been planned to be of interest during all seasons of the year.
The path leads through a beautiful pocket of rainforest where Little Wheeny Creek begins its journey to the valley below. Here among the ferns and moss covered boulders, and beneath the overhead canopy, the birds present a feast to interested watchers. An old stone weir and settling tank can be found a little further along. This area has been restored and landscaped and is a very peaceful spot to sit and relax before heading up to the lake above.
Fernbrook Gallery is the working studio of Elaine Musgrave who is a well known botanical artist, being a member of The Botanical Art Society of Australia, The American Society of Botanical Artists and the Illustrators Association of Australia. Elaine participates regularly in botanical exhibitions, and her work is included in collections, both, in Australia and overseas. An old milking shed has been lovingly restored to enable Elaine to combine her studio work with her gallery, where visitors can view her very finely detailed watercolour studies, and, are most welcome to watch her at work. In addition to the original
paintings by Elaine, works by other artists are included in the gallery display from time to time. Limited edition prints of Elaine's work are also available for sale, and there is a small range of unusual gifts.
