Muru Mittigar Aboriginal Cultural and Education Centre

Muru Mittigar Aboriginal Cultural Centre - a true indigenous experience - aims to tell the story of the Darug people, the traditional owners of the area. Muru Mittigar has a retail art gallery featuring fine arts and crafts by Aboriginal artists, nature walks with native plants traditionally used by Aboriginal people for medicinal, food or material resources and Café Muru.

While visiting Muru Mittigar is free and you can wander through the Cultural Centre, Art Gallery and Nature Walk at your own pace, a guided tour is highly
recommended. The Cultural Centre guided tour provides an informative look into the local Darug people, Aboriginal Australia and interpretive pieces. This tour takes approximately 30 minutes.

You can add to that The Yarra Walk where you learn about the traditional uses of local native plants by Aboriginal people - tour time approximately 60 minutes. Boomerang throwing is also an option and demonstrated in an open area. Visitors are encouraged to try their own hand at Boomerang throwing and learn how this important item was used for sport and as an essential weapon for hunting. This demonstration takes approximately 30 minutes.

For tour costs and more information, please contact the centre. All tours require a minimum of two people.
