Designed by Phillip Cox and opening for business in 1990 the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre (known as "The Joan") is the only cultural centre in the world to be named after Australia’s most famous opera diva - Dame Joan Sutherland.
Since 1990, the Joan has continued to attract musicians and performers of the highest international standard and has developed a deserved reputation as a performance venue and teaching centre of excellence with many thousands of talented musicians and performers making use of the Joan and a teaching facility – the Penrith Conservatorium of Music.
Following completion of a $14million upgrade in 2006, the Joan now offers the finest in cultural facilities and services including: 660 seat Richard Bonynge Concert Hall, 380 seat Q Theatre Drama Theatre, 100 seat multi-purpose Allan Mullins Hall, Penrith Conservatorium of Music (comprising 23 music studios, 2 orchestral and 2 ensemble rooms).
