Fairfield Vineyard
A successful Beechworth merchant and Bakery operator, George Francis Morris established Fairfield in 1859, building it into the biggest Australian Winery
of its era. The huge cellars were built in 1860 of Oregon timber and hand-made bricks.
Fairfield House was built in 1889, with no expense spared. Fairfield passed out of the family when G.F. Morris died in 1910. In 1973 it was bought by his
Great-grand-daughter Mrs Melba Morris Slamen, who restored the vineyard, home and winery to their former glory and magnificence.
The winery produces an excellent range of red, white and fortified wines utilising old style wine making techniques with some of the original restored wine making equipment.
Fairfield House, the restored 21 roomed mansion is fully furnished with antique furniture and open for guided tours.
Public and Victorian school holidays - 11.00am, 1.00pm and 3.00pm tours.
