Gulpa Creek Reedbeds Bird Observatory
Bushwalkers and bird enthusiasts will be drawn to the Moira Forest Walkway and Bird Observatory, located
on the banks of the Gulpa Creek near picnic point.
A clearly signposted vehicular track leads off the Picnic Point Road to a car park and picnic ground. The foot
track follows the levy bank through forest beside the creek, and passes a suspension bridge, before the
eucalypt forest gives way to swampland and the worlds tallest rush juncus ingens, a haven for birds feeding
in the swamplands.
The Observatory is a short distance on, providing enthusiasts with a good vantage point to view birds in
their natural habitat. Visitors may retrace their steps to the suspension bridge and head for the car park, via
the well signposted Moira Forest Walkway, via Tarragon Lodge and Poverty Point, providing the creek is not
in flood. The Poverty Point circuit takes about an hour and a half.
