Lake Urana Nature Reserve
Lake Urana Nature Reserve is located in the Riverina Area of NSW, 15 kilometres west
of Urana and is just over 300 hectares in size. It lies on the higher land adjacent to Lake Urana and intermittent lake used for grain production.
Lake Urana Nature Reserve lies within a vast landscape of cleared pasture and cropping land typical of Southern Central NSW (known as the Southern Riverina Bio Region). Few remnants of natural vegetation remain in this region. The addition of Lake Urana to the reserve system will enhance the representation of the ecosystems of the Riverina in the reserve system.
Eastern grey kangaroos are present in the reserve, and the 37 observed bird species include the red-rumped parrot, brown treecreeper, striated pardalote, spiny-cheeked honeyeater, striped honeyeater and the regionally uncommon grey-crowned babbler.
When the lake is flooded, waterbirds such as wood ducks, pacific black duck, Australian grey teal, yellow-billed spoonbill, black-fronted dotterel and magpie-lark occur in moderate numbers
