Wiesners Swamp Nature Reserve
Wiesners Swamp Nature Reserve is 103 hectares in size and is located approximately 50 kilometres north of Albury in southern NSW. Like Lake Urana Nature Reserve this small area of land lies within a vast landscape of cleared pasture and cropping land.
Although small, this reserve is an important remnant wetland and refuge for numerous waterbirds such as Ibis, Spoonbill Heron and Spur-Wing Plover. Due to the very fragile nature of the Wetland contained within The Nature Reserve, visits are limited.
It is an important remnant sample of native vegetation and animal habitat in a region that has been extensively cleared. The swamp floods periodically providing reliable waterbird habitat as well as a stopover point for a number of nomadic and migratory bird species.
Numerous tree hollows provide shelter and breeding opportunities for hollow-dependant birds and tree dwelling mammals.
