Didgeridoo Hut and Art Gallery
Didgeridoo Hut and Art Gallery, in Humpty Doo (only 25 minutes from the city), is owned and operated by Aboriginal people. Authentic art is produced by artists who are part of the owner’s extended family, who stay onsite while they are working. A majority of the artists are from Kakadu and Arnhem Land. Visitors can watch the artists at work and discuss their art and culture. The northern Territory art styles range from the Arnhem Land ‘Raark’, the Desert ‘dot’, to the Tiwi Islands and Saltwater regions. They stock not only aboriginal art but craft as well, including woven baskets and dillybags made from natural fibres and dyes from various roots, berries and bark. Some non-indigenous local art and craftspeople are also promoted by the gallery.
They even have a large variety of animals that live at the hut – snakes, emus, a buffalo, crocodile, cockatoo, wallaby and more.
