Mt Barney climb

The unmarked trails to the summit of Mt Barney are very steep and require bushwalking experience, navigational skills and excellent preparation. The easiest route to the summit is via the south-east ridge and then down south ridge.

Starting from a locked gate at the south-western end of Yellow Pinch camping area, the track initially follows the Logan River flats, then passes through open eucalypt forest. As you continue uphill, the ground cover consists of low heaths, wattles, banksias and grass trees, with she-oaks scattered amongst eucalypts. Before reaching the summit of East Peak, the track leads over some very steep and slippery rock slabs.

From here you walk through some thick vegetation towards West Peak and then down towards Barney Gorge Creek. On the descent it may become difficult to keep sight of an obvious track, so use detailed track notes.
