Cullin-La-Ringo Massacre Site
On October 17, 1861, 19 of the district's earliest settlers were killed in a conflict with the local Aboriginals. While ample written records testify to the European account of the massacre and its cause, Aboriginal descendants of the Kairi tribe have had to rely on oral history for their account of the day's tragic events which is acknowledged as the biggest killing of whites by blacks in Australia's history. Visit the site and view the gravestones of the Wills family.
