Mount Etna Caves National Park

Limestone deposits decorate Mount Etna's caves and outcrops, home to a significant proportion of Australia’s breeding population of little bent-wing bats. The caves also support a major maternity colony of the vulnerable ghost bat.

On a night tour see thousands of bent-wing bats emerge in search of food. Tours operate during the bat breeding season, from December to February (fees apply). Picnic at the Cammoo Caves picnic area and go on a self-guided walk. Relatively fit visitors can walk the strenuous 1.2 kilometres up many steps to Bat Cleft (the track is closed during bat breeding season). Go off track and explore Limestone Ridge. Wear sturdy boots for walking.
